Leadership in Action

4Cs Preconvention Workshop for Heads, Directors, and Future Faculty Leaders

What we will be discussing  //  What we will be doing

This preconvention workshop at the Conference on College Composition and Communication is intended for faculty who serve or plan to serve in leadership roles in writing programs and departments.  The workshop will combine work on projects that you bring to the table, and you will also have opportunities to reflect upon your own career development and the broader impact of your contributions.

This workshop will include hands-on sessions on practical strategies for efficiently managing your workflow to enable you to advance complex initiatives in strategic ways.  We will draw on our expertise with rhetoric and composition to explore strategies for project and change management, including environmental scans to develop rhetorical analyses of stakeholders’ assumptions and priorities and heuristics for collaborative problem-solving.  We will anchor our discussions in small group work on a project you bring to the table and the self-assessments that you receive from the StrengthFinders 2 on-line profile.

Throughout our daylong workshops, we will shift back and forth from practical strategies for building teams, analyzing institutional resources, advancing complex long-term projects, and managing your days and your career.  These workshops will draw on the leadership programs that we have developed and attended for department heads and university leaders and our experience directing writing programs, centers, and initiatives.

You can learn more about what we will be discussingg  and what we will be doing elsewhere on this website.

To join us, please register for the all-day workshop W-02 at 4Cs.
