Thomas P. Miller is Professor of English and Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs at the University of Arizona. He has directed the Writing Program and the PhD program in Rhetoric, Composition and the Teaching of English. He has won awards for teaching, mentoring graduate students, engaging faculty in shared governance, and leadership on diversity issues. He has published five books and fifty articles and chapters on rhetorical theory and history, teaching of writing, writing program administration, and the history of higher education. He received a national award from MLA for the first volume of the history of college English studies. The second volume was published in 2011 as The Evolution of College English: Literacy Studies from the Puritans to the Postmoderns. A new edition of his Selected Writings of John Witherspoon appeared in 2015. He co-edited a special issue of College English on leadership in 2017 and coauthored the introduction. He is currently working on editing the eighteenth and nineteenth century chapter in the Norton Anthology of Rhetoric and Writing and a special issue of College English on leadership.
